Happy Homemaker Monday

It's been such a long time since I've written something here... I'm so sorry for the lack of news. I'll try to write more often. Starting with Happy Homemaker Monday .

The weather in my neck of the woods: Not too hot today (Thank you Lord!)

On my bedside table: "Last Voyage of the Valentina" by Santa Montefiore (started today)

On my TV: No time for TV

On the menu for tonight: Dinner is at my parents

On my To Do List: Open up those boxes from the move and put everything in its new place

In the craft basket: I'm ashamed to admit that is still the ripple blanket. I haven't touched it in two months.

Looking forward to: Be with my twins tonight. After 2 weeks of holidays where we were together all the time, I'm really missing those guys.

On my Prayer List: My twins, my cousin, hubby and family.

For the weekend

Well, the weekend is almost here and I can't stop thinking about everything I want/need/have to do. I have to write everything down before I forget something, and what better place to write than my blog?

So, let's start with this evening: wash one lol, unload dishwasher, fold and put away clothes in dryer. Of course I'll have dinner and will have to clean up the kitchen afterwards (I'm convincing myself here). AND I want to do some more of the ripple blanket (I try to do a bit every night while we're waiting for one of the machines to stop washing).
Friday morning I have to get up at 8.30 am the most. Is the last day that I can return the package to "La Redoute" so I really need to go to the post office. Maybe I'll get up earlier and try to start to clean the house, good idea huh? In the evening only one thing is certain: I'm going to paint my nails RED. RED!!This wouldn't be a big thing if I would do it once in a while, but when I paint my nails it's usually white or transparent. So painting them red is a HUGE thing for me.

Saturday afternoon we'll have a b-day party. Other than that is clean the house, do the laundry, iron, play with the kids, date with hubby and ripple some more of the blanket. All this with the nails RED! hehe this should be fun!!

Crochet and knitting projects

Hello, everyone! Last week I was reading my blog (I do that from time to time. Everyone does it right? RIGHT?) and I realised that I didn't show you the finished doilie. I took a picture of it with the intention of making a post with it, but then I got sick and forgot about it. So today I have decided that it was time to FINALLY show you the doilie.

Like I said, it's not perfect, but good enough for me. Since the beginning of Spring, the doilie is on our dining table with the Spring fairies and the fake flower.

The doilie is too small for the table, but for now it works. It has to work because I'm not going to do another one in the near future. Meanwhile, my sweet MIL taught me how to knit, and so I started a scarf.

See? There's me sitting on the couch knitting the scarf. I thought that knitting was not so difficult after all, so I made two scarves. The other one I gave it to my niece.

But now I have another love.

It's addicting and, because it will be HUGE in size, I only hope to not get bored with it (like the "Last Supper", remember?)

There you go. Meet the beggining of my ripple blanket.

Like I said, it will be huge in size. But I think it will be "oh so beautiful" on our bed and I can't wait to have it done.

I feel terrible..

I'm having the worst flu ever. My body hurts, my throat hurts, my ear hurts, I didn't sleep at all last night, so my head hurts too.

I'm at work right now. I didn't want to come but I had a few things that had to be done today, so here am I. But I'm leaving soon. I'll be heading to the E.R. and then, home. If I feel better I'll write from home.

Love you all

I'm back...

... with lots to do! Yes... I always have a lot to do... and not much time to do it...
Anyway, I'm in a good mood today! And being in a good mood means doing lots of things!

Meanwhile, let me tell you what I've been doing these past weeks:
- I learned how to knit ( I started two scarves, but I'll have to buy more yarn to finish them! lol)
- I finished reading "The lucky one" by Nicholas Sparks; read "Second honeymoon" by Joanna Trollope; started yesterday "The rescue" by Nicholas Sparks.
- Last week I started to take the "miracle pills" that will help me stop smoking. And I feel good!!

Tonight, at home:
- Clean, clean, clean! The house needs a good clean.
- Wash one load of laundry
- Empty the dishwasher
- Clean main bathroom
Have a great week!

...

I'm sorry I haven't been around much. Too many things going on on my mind...

This weekend I have lots to do at home, and Saturday we will be spending the day out with family. The list of things to do is huge so I'm not going to write it here, I'm really not in the mood to feel overwhelmed. I'll be back monday. Hope you all have a nice weekend.

Let's talk about cross-stitch, shall we?

After finishing the crochet doilie, I started to think what I wanted to do next. I have a lot of new projects that I want to do, but there is one unfinished project that I can't get off of my mind. It's a cross-stitch picture, and today I'm going to tell you all about it.

I learned how to crochet and cross-stitch when I was on primary school (between 6 and 10 years old). We used to make something for Mother's Day (which in Portugal is always on the first Sunday of May). Since then, I didn't even remebered I knew how to make those things, until my first niece was born. I wanted to make her a cross-stitch pillow, but didn't do it until my first nephew (her brother) was born. Then I made two pillows in cross-stitch, one for each. (I don't have pictures of them, but I'll ask sis to send me a few so that I can show to you)

By that time I was already dating hubby, and he was all into boats. So when he saw a few boats in cross-stitch in one of my magazines, he asked me to do them, and so I did.

After the boats, I made these ducks. They are in my kitchen.

After we got married, and before getting pregnant, I found this "Last Supper" and thought it was perfect for our dining room.

I started to make it, and then I got pregnant... and then the twins were born... and then my life was turned upside down... and then I had no time to do the things I liked. For the past 5+ years, this is how the "Last Supper" looks like.

Every time I try to do it, I feel overwhelmed and put it down after a few days. Just look at the amount of different colours it has. Just by looking at it, I feel overwhelmed already...

But I really want to finish it. That's why I've decided to alternate it with the new projects I want to make. After the crochet doilie, I'll be making the "Last Supper" for one month, then I'll make something else in crochet, and then one more month of cross-stitch, and so on until the "Last Supper" is finished. This way, I hope I don't get so overwhelmed and can actually finish it.

I'm starting this weekend. Wish me luck!...

terça-feira, 10 de março de 2009

It's done!

Finally, the doilie is done! It's not perfect, but I'm happy with it. I'm going to wash it, iron it and then I'll show it to you. But for now, I'll show just a little bit...

Praying for my husband

Day 31

I know...

... I haven't been around much and I would like to apologise.

A lot has happened in the past two weeks, both good and bad. I've had a hard time accepting the bad ones, but God has helped me to pass through them. *thank you, Lord!*

The house is looking good. You know that we are trying to sell the house, and we've had more visitors to see it in February than the whole last year! So the house must be clean and tidy up all the time. I'm still having a hard time to stick to a daily routine to clean it, but I'll get there. And regarding the "organizing" part, I'm going to start again my challenges and mini-challenges. This way it will be easier.

My crochet doilie is almost done! I'll post a picture when it's ready. After that I think I'll do some cross-stitch. As for books, I finished reading "The edge of Winter" by Luanne Rice 2 weeks ago, and I LOVED IT!!! Last week I started "The Lucky One" by Nicholas Sparks.

And that's all. I hope you have a good week, with lots of love.

Praying for my husband

Day 27

Pray that your husband will understand the importance of taking care of his body—the temple of the Holy Spirit—for the glory of God. Pray that he will practice self-control by making wise food choices, and get sufficient exercise to stay healthy. (Rom. 12:1-2; 1 Cor. 6:19-20, 9:27)

I feel great!

You know the feeling, right? When everything goes the way you planned, and you have that sense of accomplishment that makes you happy. This was my weekend!

But first, let me vent a little.lol

So, it's friday and it's Valentines Day at the kids school. They each paint one heart and then give it to a friend. One of my twins was all happy because he got a heart from the girl he gave his heart to.

The other twin was sad, because he gave his heart to a girl but didn't receive any. Now I ask you: don't you think that the teachers should have a few hearts ready for situations like that? I mean they're 4 years old. Aren't they a little too young to feel this kind of rejection?! Anyway, my nephew made one heart and gave it to him. Because Valentines Day is also about friends and family and the love that surrounds us. He was happy with it!

*******
Saturday, after breakfast we went to buy the new camera. It's a Nikkon, it's huge, and now I have to learn how to work with it!lol When we passed by the books I told hubby that I was just going to see what books they had. And then I came out with these in my hands:

I'm crazy, I know! Hubby thinks so too! But he loves me you know, so he just laughed when I told him that I was ready to leave the store with 6 books by Nicholas Sparks, but then decided that 3 were enough because I wanted to read other authors too. ;)

After lunch, I started to clean the kitchen. You know, wash the walls, the machines and the cabinets. I cleaned half of the kitchen in that afternoon and the other half on Sunday afternoon, and I was amazed. You see, I was getting to a point in my life where just the thought of doing these things overwhelmed me and I've always procrastinate doing them. But this weekend I realized that they're not that hard to do and don't even take too long to do either. Although there are still things that are not cleaned, the kitchen is shinning, and this makes me very happy!!

Saturday, after cleaning half of the kitchen, I went to the living room and there were my 3 boys. Hubby and Diogo were doing some drawings with paper,

and Rodrigo was playing the new game (Nemo) on the playstation.

So I went to the kitchen again, and baked the cake

This is really a good and easy to bake cake, and we ate it after dinner.

Sunday, after cleaning the other half of the kitchen, I ironed what was to be ironed, made some more crochet and ate more cake!lol

This was a wonderful weekend!
